Late Autumn Light (Walla Walla River Tree)

Late Autumn Light is an exploration of color, shape and form. Paintings and sculptures from this body of Broel’s work are inspired by local landscape: agricultural fields, rolling hills and the meandering rivers and creeks of the Walla Walla Valley. The repetition of simplified shapes layered on top of a background of color washes creates a subtle visual flow throughout painting’s surface. Starting from sketches of local landscapes, Broel incorporates aerial and angular perspectives, establishing points of view from different vantage points as a way of examining the “fullness of place.” The choice of palette resonates local color in autumn.
