This painting made of acrylic paint and fragments of fabric on wood panel is part of Squire Broel’s Botanical Series. The paintings from this series began with formal observations and sketches from plants that grew in Broel’s Kenneth Street flower gardens. As his paintings developed in the early 2000s, individual works became more spare and abstract in order to express the simple yet powerful essence of “flower.
